City advise of possible water supply disruptions in Blue Downs/Kuilsriver areas

The City of Cape Town advises residents of the Blue Downs and Kuilsriver areas that it will be necessary to shut off water supply on the evening of Monday, 16 November 2020 until midnight on the same day. This is to prepare for a major tie-in later in the month. Read more below:

The City’s Water and Sanitation Department is currently constructing a new 100-meter pipeline. This is for its 1500mm diameter Blackheath bulk water main along Belhar Road in Highbury. It will allow for the upgrading and widening of Belhar Road, which will help reduce traffic congestion in the area.

Tie-in of the newly constructed section of pipeline to the existing infrastructure is anticipated to take 48 hours, and is planned to occur from 24:00 on Friday, 27 November 2020  until 24:00 on Sunday, 29 November 2020.

As part of the planning process for this project, a temporary dummy shut-off is planned before the actual work takes place. This will help minimise the chance of unexpected delays when the tie-in is done. This dummy shut-off will also help the City in assessing which area’s water supply will be affected by the work, so that alternative supply can be made available for these areas.

This dummy shut-off will happen on Monday, 16 November 2020 from 20:00 until midnight, and will result in the disruption of the water supply to the following areas;
• Dennemere
• Austinville
• Blackheath Industrial
• Happy Valley
• Summerville
• Hagley
• Saxenburg
• Ou Nooiensfontein
• Nuwe Nooiensfontein,
• Dannarand,
• Sarepta,
• Kalkfontein,
• Highbury,
• Voelvlei,
• Mabille Park
• Wesbank.
